8/16/10: Coaches Shirts

SSA Coaches,

If you need a coach's shirt with logo for this weekend, please contact Jason@kombatsoccer.com and arrange a pick up with him.  If you do not need it this weekend, the shirts will be ready after Wednesday of next week.  You can pick them up between 10 and 5 pm at the warehouse.

Thanks,

Chris

SSA Coaches,

If any of you have interest in playing in a Land Park Coaches and Board soccer game, please see the following note.  This is not mandatory and is just for fun (for those of you foolish enough to still be playing soccer at our advanced ages! ;-)  ).  This is open to ALL SSA coaches and assistant coaches.

I think Carrie meant that now they will have 2 teams and 1 game.  If the response is good, there will be 4 teams and 2 games.

Contact Carrie if you are interested!

Thanks,

Chris

7/27/2010: Playing Time Update

SSA Coaches,

Here is a clarification on playing time with the new CCSL structure as told to me by my AGC:

Metro

All Divisions      Each player must play ½ the game as usual

CCSL

Gold                 No playing time requirement (as this is really for Comp teams)

Silver                No playing time requirement, but recommend playing each player ½ the game as this is for good “Select” teams

Bronze              Each player must play ½ the game

Copper             Each player must play ½ the game

I hope this helps.  I know it is confusing in this transition year, but I will give you information as I get it.

Thanks,

Chris

7/27/2010: Playing Time and Slide Tackling

SSA Coaches,

As tournaments are starting and the season is just around the corner, I want to remind experience Select coaches and make sure new Select coaches know that all players on the teams must play at least ½ the game.  The official rule is as follows:

3:01:03 All registered players who have attended all practice sessions during the week prior to a game must play in at least one-half (1/2) of that game unless that player is being disciplined, injured or ill. The Referee must be notified before the game if a player is not playing due to disciplinary action and such action must be noted on the game card. Complaints regarding violations of this rule shall be referred to the Metro League Representative and the President of the team’s League of registration. The team’s League of registration will investigate the complaint and the League Representative will report the results of their investigation to the Metro Chair within seven calendar days after completing the investigation.

Beyond the official policy of Select, the goal of SSA is player development.  The best way for players to develop is for them to play as much of the game as possible.  Please keep this in mind as you do your line ups and plan playing time.

Also at one of the Seeding tournaments a coach from a non-SSA team was given a red card for repeatedly promoting slide tackling and taking down players.  Younger players should not be slide tackling.  Please keep this in mind as you prepare your teams.  Also be aware of it if other teams are slide tackling.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,

Chris

7/26/2010: Uniforms

SSA Coaches,

In spite of the best efforts of Kombat and SSA to make sure everything was in on time, not all of the uniforms will be ready in time for your first tournaments.  We have been working closely with Kombat since April on the uniforms and Kombat has been great.  However at the end of the day both SSA and Kombat are dependent on Nike delivering on time.

Originally Nike has promised delivery of the uniforms by early July.  Delivery dates for much of the order continues to be pushed out into next week.   This has affected Seeding tournament and will affect tournaments for the coming weekend.  If Nike delivers on their latest promised delivery date, the rest of the uniforms should be in next week.

Kombat, trying to accommodate SSA’s situation, has kindly offered the following:

If your team needs a uniform for a tournament this weekend and has not received it from Kombat yet, Kombat will provide a free white and/or blue t-shirt to your team.  If you would like the SSA logo on the front and a number on the back of the t-shirt, Kombat will do so for $5 per shirt.  You can use these shirts for practice shirts or just wear around shirts.

If you need a t-shirt, please contact Jason at Kombat ASAP to discuss the situation.   Please contact him at the Kombat warehouse (428 4116) or via his e mail jason@kombatsoccer.com.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Chris

7/8/2010: Seeding Information

SSA Coaches,

Many of you have asked when the schedules for the seeding tournaments are going to be published.  In short, I do not know.  CYSA controls that process, not SSA, so I am waiting to be informed just as you are.

This morning my AGC sent an email to U9/10 indicating that the process is ongoing and new teams are still being accepted.  Therefore the schedules will not come out for a few days (?).  He requested patience due to the new CCSL process which has delayed communicating schedules.

As soon as I have any information, I will let you know. I know it is frustrating because you want to plan your schedules and know where you might travel. I also am frustrated, but there is nothing the SSA can do to speed up the process.  If you have specific questions, you should try to contact your AGC as they have much more information about the process than I do.

Thanks,

Chris

7/1/2010: Team Training Session With River

Please contact our SSA Head Trainer River Blough to set up your team training session. Please let me know if you ARE NOT going to have River run a session for your team.

5/27/10: Mandatory SSA Interactive Coaching Seminar

SSA Coaches -

As Chris has touched on previously, the SSA is focused on player and coach development. To further this emphasis, we have hired a nationally licensed trainer to be the SSA Head Trainer for the 2010 campaign. This head trainer is River Blough and he will be conducting an Interactive Coaching Seminar for all of the SSA Coaches and Assistant Coaches. This seminar is scheduled for:

Friday June 4th 6 - 7:30 pm at Cal Middle School

Please come dressed to play.

Check out Rivers impressive credentials at www.SacramentoSoccerAlliance.com

In addition to this coaching seminar River will also be coming out and running a training session for each of our teams. These will be scheduled in the future.  Those of you not interested can choose to opt out, but I think it can be nothing but positive for your team.

The SSA is currently coordinating four Goal Keeper clinics that will be held on various Saturdays. More info coming soon.

If you have any thoughts or questions please feel free to call or email me.

Best Regards -

Todd Dunbar

5/25/10: LP Practice Fields

LP SSA Coaches,

If Mark Cooper or I have not spoken to you about practice fields yet, please take a look at the attached document and choose a practice field and time.  Please communicate with Mark ASAP about your choices and options. Mark cell is 916.207.9870 and his email is coopers4@aol.com.

Land Park Fields Request Form

You will get a 2 hour block of time to practice.  You will probably share a field with another team.  Select gets preference, but it is first come, first serve.

Thanks,

Chris

5/24/10: Online Coaching Resources

SSA Coaches,

The main goal of the SSA is to maximize player development.  As part of the effort to reach that goal, SSA is striving to provide better support and resources to coaches.  To that end we have looked at various options to assist you and provide the latest information on coaching developments.

One of the options explored and decided on was to provide online resources to the SSA coaches to allow them to have access to drills, coaching tips, nutrition tips, etc.  SSA found one source and is paying for and providing access for SSA coaches to a website that has what we feel is an enormous amount of information.

The website is www.thechallengerway.com

At this website you will find hundreds of drills and games for all sorts of different skills.  They are in pdf and video format.  You will also find information on formations, conditioning, laws of the game, etc.

Each head coach has an account.  When you login use your ******** as your ID and your password.  Please change your password as soon as you can to prevent other people from using your account.  Passwords are case sensitive, so enter your email as you have provided it (check the coaches’ contact sheet for details).  If you have any problems logging in, please let me know.  These accounts cost money, so we are only providing them to head coaches, not to assistant coaches.  Please limit access to your accounts.

We hope that you will utilize this website and that it will help you in your coaching experience.  Please provide us feedback (both positive and negative) as you use it so we can evaluate it for next year.  We are always looking for ideas to provide service to coaches, so if you have any ideas, let us know!

Thanks,

Todd Dunbar

5/20/10: Another CYSA last minute document - IMPORTANT

SSA Coaches,

Last night, CYSA sent us ANOTHER NEW document that needs to be signed by the parents of all of the players.

The document is a medical liability release that is on a printed sticker that will be attached to the back of the player passes.  We have purchased the stickers and printed them out for you (just another wonderful service we provide our beloved coaches).

A representative from each of your teams needs to find me at the mandatory coaches’ meeting tonight.  I will give your representative sheets of stickers.  You need to get one sticker to each of your player’s parents and have them filled out and sign it.  If a representative of your team is not going to be at the meeting, you need to contact me ASAP to arrange for you to come to me and pick up the stickers.

You need to get the signed stickers back to Carrie NO LATER than Sunday May 30th.

We cannot register your team without the stickers, so it is critical that you do this as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,

Chris

5/19/10: Uniform Sizing II

SSA Coaches,

The uniforms we are getting this year are new Nike uniforms that are not available on the market yet.  Kombat is waiting for the first samples to come in before we do the sizing.

Kombat just informed me that the samples for sizing will not arrive until the 1st week of June.  Therefore please plan your team sizing sessions from June 7th and on.  If you can schedule the session after the 7th but before the 20th, that would be great.

Thanks,

Chris

5/19/10: Coaching Attire

SSA Coaches,

SSA will be providing coaches’ shirts for you to wear at games for all of the registered coaches with a team.  We will provide up to 3 shirts per team, free of charge.  The shirt is shown below and will also have the SSA logo on the shirt.  It is a Nike shirt made of the Coolmax material, so hopefully it will be comfortable.

When you go into Kombat for your uniform sizing, please have your coaches sized for coaches’ shirts also!

Thanks,

Chris

5/19/10: Uniform Sizing Appointments

SSA Coaches,

If you want to start arranging uniform sizing sessions at Kombat Soccer, please contact Roger Smith to do so.  His email is roger@kombatsoccer.com and office number is 916-428-4116.

Roger recommends that you plan to have the sizing session done in early June.  It must be done by June 15th in order to have the uniforms back in time for the seeding tournaments at the end of July.

Please note that you have to go into Kombat for sizing AS A TEAM, not as individuals.  You need to arrange with your parents to have all of the players on your team at Kombat at one time to get sized.  During your team sizing event, Kombat is offering a 20% discount on all regularly priced items in the store.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Roger or myself at any time.

Thanks,

Chris

SSA Coaches,

There is a mandatory Select meeting on May 20th at 7 pm at Johnny’s Sidewalk Pizza in West Sac.

If you cannot make it, send your assistant coach or a team parent to attend.

Carrie needs to turn in team information at that meeting, so you need to have it to her ASAP!!

Chris

5/12/10: Mandatory May 20th Meeting

SSA Coaches,

It is CRITICAL that you get your packets to Carrie Dunbar this week.  We are being asked to turn in roster information on May 20th with team registration fees.  We need to get your registration information as soon as possible.

It is my understanding that only 8 out of the 24 teams have turned in their packets. Please get your packets to Carrie ASAP.  If you cannot get them to Carrie in the next day or so, please send Carrie and me an email explaining the situation.

Also, if you are playing CYSA CSL, please print out your registration information from your online registration.  Please provide a printed copy to Carrie with your packet.

If you have any questions, please contact Carrie or I.

Thanks,

Chris
